Obtaining Burn Permits

How to Obtain Your Permit

Do you have questions about whether you can burn that crispy, old Christmas tree? Or maybe whether your piles of raked leaves can be set ablaze?

The Oxford (Catfish District) Volunteer Fire Department will issue a burn permitĀ  for any legal fire. If you are a citizen of our fire district, please visit the main station any time between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. and one of our staff members will be glad to write you a permit.

Please be aware that the Department’s primary mission is to respond to emergency calls. For that reason, there may be times when our whole team is on an emergency call and not at the station to greet you. The duration of time that our Fire Department personnel are gone varies significantly depending on the circumstance, so please make note of this when you visit.

Burn permits can also be submitted electronically through the North Carolina Forest Service website. You can access this website by clicking on the NC Forest Service patch, located below. The NC Forest Service website allows you to fill out and print off burn permits electronically.
